Another Pointless Stance for Orrin Hatch

My greatest wrath is typically aimed at those who profess to be conservatives and yet use the power of the government to meddle with anything they can think of. Orrin Hatch is one of the worst offenders. Apparently, Senator Hatch wrote a letter to the Justice Department requesting a legal review of the BCS. For those who don't follow college sports, the BCS is the governing body that determines the rankings and the bowl games for football.

Now, I will be the first to admit that the BCS seems like a really idiotic system. And I don't think I'm in the minority. However, since when is it the place of the federal government to determine how the college football championship is determined? While we're at it, why in the world did Congress waste so much of our tax money trying to determine who was taking steroids in baseball a couple of years ago? Aren't there more important things to work on? Not for Senator Hatch apparently. This is worth spending his effort on. Maybe it's time we relieve him of his senate seat if he can't think of anything worthwhile to do. What an embarrassment.

The Real Reason Obama Wants Another Stimulus

Because it will coincide nicely with the natural end of the recession and provide him something he can take credit for.

Hayek vs. Keynes, the Rap

I know, I know. I'm probably the only person who enjoyed this but I'm a sick Austrian economics lover.

Obama's Responsibility Tax on Banks

President Obama is proposing leveling a tax/penalty on all banks to pay for the TARP money that has not been paid back. The problem is that it will be forced on ALL banks, not just the ones who haven't paid back TARP. That's the equivalent of me taking out a loan, paying it back and then finding out that I have to keep paying my monthly payment until everyone else in the United States has paid back THEIR loans.

Here is a short article on the subject. There is also a clip from A&G in the audio clips at the top of the page.

The Problem When Government Gets Involved

No matter your opinion on government-provided health care, it's impossible to deny the fact that government chooses winners and losers wherever it gets involved. They give gifts to the groups they favor. A perfect case-in-point is the Congress giving unions a pass on having to pay any tax on "Cadillac" health plans. So, if you're a union member with a primo healthcare policy, you don't have to pay the tax that everyone else does. That sounds fair.

Only 11 Minutes of Fame Left

My little brother called me today and told me that he had heard my letter being read on our favorite talk show, Armstrong and Getty. My entire family, from here in California to Washington, Idaho and Utah listens to A&G so it was an epic family moment to hear my letter read on the air. Right up there with changing my first diaper. It was a fun little 4 minute clip that may turn out to be a wanton misuse of my allotted 15 minutes of fame, and given the chance to do it again, I would write about something more dignified than tapeworms. Like amoebic dysentary. You can find the clip with the rest of my A&G clips above. It's titled My Tapeworm Letter. Sounds classy, eh?

Transparent Negotiations?

A recent collection of video clips shows Pres. Obama promising transparent healthcare negotiations that would be televised on C-SPAN. On multiple occasions he made this promise. I don't think this kind of thing is peculiar to President Obama. ALL presidents make promises and keep nary a one of them. I'm just amazed that we still believe them when they say this stuff on the campaign trail. » The C-SPAN Lie? See Eight Clips of Obama Promising Televised Healthcare Negotiations
