Chuck Devore on the Role of Government

Chuck Devore

So I've been looking into the Senate race for California and I've been more and more impressed with Chuck Devore. Apparently, George Will is too.

ICaucus

Okay, so rather than be depressed with the direction our leaders just pointed our country and just complaining about it, I've decided to get active. I joined an organization called ICaucus and the goal of the group is to meet with all candidates all over the country, interview them, ask them questions about how they would behave in office with regards to constitutional issues and then make those interviews available to the rest of the organization. The members of ICaucus then vote on whether or not to endorse a particular candidate for office. It's a new organization, but I like the direction of their efforts. I would strongly encourage you to take a look at it and see if it's something you could get behind.

Lobbying Surprise

A good friend of mine just posted a recent report about the largest lobbying groups in California. I don't know about you, but I hear or read regularly about how the awful pharmaceutical/oil/healthcare/etc. lobbies are ruining this country. You may be surprised to hear the the largest lobby, far and away, was the California Teachers Association. Yep, that right, Big Education is trying to influence your representative to give them more money and power. So when you hear about how evil those corporate lobbies are, ask that person if they're just as upset about Big Education lobbying.

Check out my friend's post and the list. The CTA was TWICE as giving as the next nearest lobby. In fact, the two largest lobby groups were unions. If that doesn't tell you something about the reason California is in bad shape, I don't know how to make it any more obvious.

Epic Caption Fail

The New York Times had an epic caption fail recently. Either that, or this picture is actually Hillary Clinton and she's been walking around in a pant-suit-wearing-white-lady disguise all these years. What say you?

Rube Goldberg is Smiling

I love watching Rube Goldberg machines. It's always fascinating to me the complexity of the setup and the creativity of the design. I hope you enjoy this.
